Research on clean fuels and technologies for shipping

The shipping industry stands as a cornerstone of global trade, but its impact on air quality and marine ecosystems presents a pressing environmental challenge. Mitigating emissions from ships, which have a global footprint, is essential for protecting oceans and coastal communities.

REALCHEM is dedicated to pioneering cleaner solutions for the shipping industry.

Central to this effort is the investigation of alternative fuels, including methanol and ammonia, and advanced emissions-reducing technologies, such as carbon capture. Onboard testing and rigorous data analysis enable accurate evaluation of these approaches in minimizing maritime emissions.

AUTh (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), Tampere University (TAU), IVL, and DANAOS all partake in creating scientific data.

REALCHEM’s research will serve as a valuable compass, guiding stakeholders towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible shipping industry. The goal is cleaner oceans, healthier coastal communities, and a robust, climate-conscious global economy.
