Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM)

Tackling emissions from Non-Road Mobile Machinery

Non-road mobile machinery (NRMM), including excavators, tractors, and generators, plays a crucial role across diverse sectors, from construction to agriculture. Traditional reliance on fossil fuels by these engines generates substantial pollutant emissions impacting air quality and public health. The REALCHEM project seeks to identify and promote cleaner, more sustainable solutions for NRMM.

The core of our research involves investigating low-carbon fuel alternatives and advanced engine technologies capable of minimizing emissions in NRMM applications.

This involves rigorous, real-world testing of diverse fuel and engine combinations to accurately assess their environmental impacts. Cutting-edge modelling techniques are employed to project the long-term effects of identified strategies on air quality and human health.

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Tampere University, IEM, AUTH and SKANE provide experimental data, the results of which are then analysed and synthesized to create actionable scientific data.

By identifying and validating promising approaches for emissions reduction, REALCHEM aims to guide NRMM manufacturers, operators, and policymakers toward informed decisions that foster a transition to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible NRMM sector.
