5th ACCC Impact Week 2026

REALCHEM will be featured at the 5th ACCC Impact Week 2026, taking place from 14–17 April 2026 at the Sofia Cultural Centre in Helsinki, Finland.

The project will be presented on 16 April at 14:00, contributing to a dynamic programme of sessions addressing some of today’s most pressing climate and air quality challenges.

Organised by the Atmosphere and Climate Competence Center (ACCC), the Impact Week is a flagship annual event that brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, industry representatives, and civil society actors. The event serves as a platform for sharing cutting-edge scientific knowledge and fostering dialogue on practical pathways towards climate neutrality, clean air, and sustainable development.

The 2026 edition will focus on translating research into real-world impact, with sessions exploring topics such as carbon sinks, greenhouse gas mitigation, urban air quality, and the role of policy and finance in accelerating climate action. Through a combination of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and thematic sessions, participants will have the opportunity to exchange insights, build collaborations, and engage in cross-sectoral discussions.

On 16 April (13:00 – 15:00), REALCHEM will be presented in a special session. This public session will discuss the future of transport technologies in hard-to-electrify sectors, based on findings from the REALCHEM project. The focus is on heavy-duty vehicles and non-road mobile machinery, shipping, and aviation, with particular attention to the role of alternative fuels, emission abatement measures, and emerging propulsion technologies. Building on project analyses, the session will explore plausible technological trajectories toward 2030 and 2050, including expected changes in the propulsion mix, improvements in energy efficiency, and pathways toward carbon-neutrality. Results from sector specific assessments will be used to highlight similarities and differences across transport modes, as well as uncertainties and trade-offs relevant to air quality and climate objectives. We aim to provide a perspective on future transport technology development, and discuss on how research outcomes can inform policy, planning, and further innovation in hard-to-electrify transport sectors.

AGENDA:

13:00 The REALCHEM project: overview (M. Dal Maso, TAU)
13:15 From primary emissions to secondary aerosols - resultsfrom the first REALCHEM experiment (K. Kylämäki, TAU)
13:35 REALCHEM Technology Trajectories

 – REALCHEM development of technology trajectories (J. Moldanova, IVL)

– Future technology options for heavy duty vehicles and machinery (N. Kuittinen, VTT)

– Decarbonisation trajectories in the shipping sector (Georgios Tsakonas, LAT)

– Towards low-carbon aviation (Louise Ganeau, ONERA)

14:15 Life-cycle analysis of low-carbon fuel (E. Malmgren)
14:30 New insights to the secondary aerosol emissions of different traffic sectors – results from PAREMPI project (Hilkka Timonen)
14:50 Discussion and conclusions
15:00 Networking Coffee

The event also coincides with REALCHEM’s second in-person consortium meeting, taking place back-to-back with the Impact Week. This provides a valuable opportunity for project partners to align ongoing work while engaging with the broader climate and air quality research community.

Please note that you must register in order to attend the event until 7th April 2026 via this link.
